India hurting after Women's T20 World Cup, but need to look at positives: Head coach: Amol Muzumdar

Amol Muzumdar, the head coach of India’s women’s team, acknowledged that the players are still upset by their failure to advance past the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 group stage earlier this month. But as they get ready to play New Zealand in a three-match ODI series in Ahmedabad, he wants to focus on the good things that have happened over the past ten months.

In their first World Cup match, Harmanpreet Kaur and company fell to eventual winners New Zealand by 58 runs. With victories over Sri Lanka and Pakistan, the Women in Blue turned the tide and managed to stay afloat in the competition. They were eliminated from the 10-team competition, nevertheless, after losing a crucial match against the reigning champions, Australia.

Muzumdar wished for a solid return from his team ahead of Thursday, October 24, the first ODI at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Given that the team and the players have been in pain, it would be an understatement to say that we were unhappy with the World Cup. However, we must pull together and consider the good things we have accomplished collectively over the past ten months,” Muzumdar stated during the news conference prior to the game.

Only a few months ago, we defeated South Africa 3-0 in Bangalore. Thus, we are eagerly anticipating the series (against New Zealand). It’s a significant series,” Muzumdar continued.

We are a strong group: Amol Muzumdar

India has a strong team, according to Muzumdar, who also stated that during the series against New Zealand, they will concentrate on strengthening their areas of weakness. “We want to concentrate on our strengths and work on the areas to improve because we are a strong squad.

The former Mumbai cricket player said, “I have no doubt that this series would be fiercely contested. Since their  convincing 3-0 victory over South Africa at home in June, this will be India’s first ODI assignment.
