AUS-W vs IND-W 2024: India fined for slow overrate in 2nd ODI vs Australia

In the second ODI of their ICC Women’s Championship series against Australia at the Allan Border Field in Brisbane on Sunday, December 8, Harmanpreet Kaur‘s team, India, was fined 10% of their match money for playing at a sluggish over-rate.

After accounting for time allowances, match referee David Gilbert determined that the Women in Blue were two overs short of the goal and imposed the sanction.

For each over their team fails to bowl in the allocated time, players are penalised 5% of their match fee in accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with minimum over-rate offences.

There was no need for a formal hearing because Harmanpreet admitted to the crime and agreed to the suggested punishment. The accusation was made by third umpire Jacquline Williams, fourth umpire David Taylor, and on-field umpires Claire Polosak and Donovan Koch.

Throughout the three-match series, Australia harassed India and ultimately prevailed handily in all three matches. The first and second ODIs in Brisbane were won by Tahlia McGrath and company by five wickets and 122 runs, respectively. India was defeated by the home team by 83 runs in the final One-Day International, which was played in Perth.

What will happen to Team India next?

India will play the West Indies in three Twenty20 Internationals and as many One-Day Internationals at home after being destroyed by the global champions. The Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai will host the Twenty20 Internationals on December 15, 17, and 19. In the meantime, the ODIs are set for December 22, 24, and 27 at Vadodara’s Reliance Stadium.

India will try to turn things around in front of their home crowd against an unpredictable West Indies team captained by talismanic all-rounder Hayley Matthews after a poor first-round elimination in the T20 World Cup and the crushing defeat against the Aussies.
