In the third Women’s ODl match versus Australia in New Delhi, India was penalised 10% of their match money for continuing to play at a slow over-rate.
Even after accounting for time allowances, India was still two overs behind the required rate, therefore match referee G.S. Lakshmi of the Emirates ICC International Panel imposed the sanction.
For each over that is not bowled within the designated time, players are penalised 5% of their match fee under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which addresses minimum over-rate offences.
There was no need for a formal hearing because India captain Harmanpreet Kaur acknowledged the allegation and the suggested punishment. With assistance from third umpire Gayathri Venugopalan and fourth umpire Vrinda Rathi, on-field umpires Lauren Agenbag and Janani Narayanan reported the sluggish over-rate.
