Duleep Trophy 2024, India A vs India B, Day 4 Review: India B wins with collective bowling effort

One may have said that India B had the advantage in their first-round match versus India A at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru when they finished the third day with a 240-run lead. Nonetheless, India A bowlers used the cloudy weather and the areas of green grass to their advantage in the morning session.

Sai Kishore was the first batsman to fall, and he was sent back for a nine-ball duck after nicking one behind to Dhruv Jurel once more. Yash Dayal hit four boundaries in his nine balls before being removed as the final batter. Following the departure of Navdeep Saini by Akash Deep, Jurel claimed his seventh catch of the innings and his eighth five-wicket haul in first-class cricket.

With 78 overs and a goal of 275, India A would have an interesting day ahead of them. Unlike the first innings, the opening stand did not continue long as Nitish Kumar Reddy made a fantastic reaction catch at second slip to remove Mayank Agarwal from the game.

After taking the lead and playing some explosive strokes in an interesting innings, Riyan Parag was eventually dismissed by Yash Dayal. Dayal’s joy was so passionate that it was clear how much the dismissal meant to him and the squad. Gill, meanwhile, was outlasted by Saini, who had the last laugh a few overs later. Prior to lunch, India A were down to 76/4, when Jurel took a first-baller.

India A’s innings was destined to end soon after Rahul was surpassed by an off-cutter from Mukesh Kumar.

Following Tanush Kotian’s dismissal after lunch, they collapsed even more, with Pant goingbble up a sloppy drive on the up that went behind the stumps. After making another promising start, Shivam Dube was removed from the game for closing the bat face a little too soon in an attempt to lob a catch to short-cover. Rahul was able to farm the strike for the majority of the stand before Tea because to a partnership with Kuldeep Yadav and Rahul, who each took a few body punches.

In an attempt to sever the relationship, Abhimanyu Easwaran included Kishore and Yashasvi Jaiswal in the attack, but just for a single over. This time, Rahul was confident, in contrast to his patchy appearance in the first innings. With 143 required, he reached his 33rd fifty a few overs before Tea.

But Kuldeep’s unwavering resistance was what kept India B in the dark. After Kuldeep was fired, Akash assumed the role for himself by landing a couple hard hits. Even though Kishore dropped Akash at deep square-leg, India B was unaffected because Avesh removed him with a powerful bouncer on the very next delivery.

There appeared to be a slim chance that India A would manage to secure a draw. That was, however, eliminated when Musheer Khan got Akash out at short leg to give India B a well-earned 76-run triumph. Rightfully so, the 19-year-old was named Player of the Match for his incredible 181.

This is the lone match that will be played in Bengaluru before the tournament advances to Anantapur. On September 12, 2024, both the winners and losers of the first round will square off against one another in games that will start on the same day at nearby locations.
