Former Indian icon Sunil Gavaskar recently discussed the same subject and expressed the opinion that negotiations on the bilateral series’ restart could only take place if border calm was restored.
The two teams have only played each other in white-ball competitions, like as the 50-over World Cup, T20 World Cup, Asia Cup, and Champions Trophy, since Pakistan last visited India for a bilateral series in the 2012–13 season. For more over ten years, there have been no discussions about the two sides playing bilateral series.
“To be honest, having peace at the borders is the best way for India and Pakistan to resume playing bilateral series.” It’s really easy. I believe that both governments will say, “Look, okay, we’ve had no incidents, nothing at all,” if there is peace at the borders. According to India Today, Sunil Gavaskar said on Sports Central, “So, let’s at least start talking.”
“I have a good feeling that some backchannel linkages will occur. However, when we hear about intrusions, you want to see what’s going on both on and off the ground. That’s why the Indian government is saying, ‘Look, maybe we shouldn’t even look at having or talking about anything until all that ends,'” he continued.
The fact that England came and played was a wonderful thing: Sunil Gavaskar
The former India opener praised the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for allowing England to play Afghanistan in the Champions Trophy despite the conflict between politics and sport.
“It’s fortunate that the England and Wales Cricket Board chose to play, as it’s a different matter entirely what the government chooses among itself. Thus, it was fortunate that they finally showed up to play. And, well, they were defeated. “So, perhaps now if someone says, ‘They didn’t want to play against Afghanistan because they knew they were going to lose,'” Sunil Gavaskar said.
At the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, India defeated Pakistan by six wickets with forty-five deliveries remaining in their most recent match. With one game remaining, India advanced to the competition’s knockout stage, while the hosts placed bottom in Group A.
