India's Ravindra Jadeja surpasses Zaheer Khan to enter elusive list

In the first ODI of the series against England at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur, star Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja made history with the ball. After taking three wickets in his nine overs, he was the Indian team’s most economical bowler.

The reason for Jadeja’s placement in a revered list was his third dismissal of the day. Adil Rashid was out of the game after the fourth delivery of the 47th over. In international cricket, Jadeja recorded his 600th dismissal with this wicket. Jadeja had the same number of international dismissals as former left-arm seamer Zaheer Khan prior to the match. Jadeja bowled in his 411th appearance with the ball, recording his 600th dismissal, while Zaheer reached his tally in 373 innings.

When it comes to Indian cricket, bowlers Kapil Dev (687), Harbhajan Singh (707), Ravichandran Ashwin (765), and Anil Kumble (953), have more dismissals than him. Speaking of active Indian cricket players, Ishant Sharma (434), Mohammed Shami (452) and Jasprit Bumrah (443), are the people behind Jadeja. Jadeja is therefore more likely to surpass Kapil’s record than Shami or Bumrah to surpass his total.

Before Rashid, Jadeja got rid of Joe Root and then Jacob Bethell. Both of them were trapped in front of the stumps. The ace left-armer conceded only one boundary in his spell. The second-highest number of boundaries was conceded by Axar Patel (3).

India bundled England out for 248 in 47.4 overs. Other than Jadeja, ODI debutant, Harshit Rana, ended up with a three-wicket haul to his name. Rana ended up conceding 53 in his seven overs, including his third going for 26.
