"Sometimes having that kind of culture does not help us," Pathan remarked.

India has celebrity culture unlike Australia: Irfan Pathan

There were multiple conversations on Australia’s sporting culture following their victory over India in the 2023 ODI World Cup final. A team’s culture has a big impact on how well-managed and successful they are under duress. Australia consistently performs well and has a dominant mindset, as their numerous ICC titles attest.

In reference to the same, former Indian pacer Irfan Pathan noted that the country’s celebrity culture hasn’t benefited the team as a whole. Indian cricket players have a cult-like following that practically worships them. Pathan’s statement, which draws attention to this specific point, is aimed at India’s head coach, Rahul Dravid, who is responsible for managing players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Additionally, he embodied the same philosophy as former India coach Greg Chappell.

“Celebrity culture is absent from Australia. Thankfully, or unfortunately, we do have that. Where we come in between, I would ideally like to see a lovely balance between Indian and Australian traditions. That kind of culture does not always assist us. In addition, we are who we are. Our ethnicity is Indian; we are not Australian. Our feelings are distinct. ESPNcricinfo cited Pathan as saying, “Our ethics are different, and our mindset is different.”

About 2007, Greg Chappell served as the Indian team’s coach. His coaching brought to a number of adjustments to the national team’s lineup. He and the skipper at the time, Sourav Ganguly, had different viewpoints. India was consequently eliminated in the league stage of the 2007 World Cup. Irfan Pathan joked that the Australian’s aggressive mentality was counterproductive to the team because no doubts were created about his intentions.

“When Greg Chappell joined, he had the only goal in mind: elevating Indian cricket to a new level. Although his method was appropriate in Australia, it did not work in India. He still wanted everyone to be treated equally and to work for the Indian squad in the same way. “His intentions were always clear,” he continued.
