Rinku Singh, Shubman Gill, and speedsters Harshit Rana and Vaibhav Arora from the previous edition show that Kolkata Knight Riders are known for bringing in the best players. With players like Andre Russell and Sunil Narine still happily donning the purple jersey, the team is also renowned for satisfying its older supporters.
According to NDTV Sports reports, the reigning champions are thinking of bringing in their family member who is alienated before the 2025 IPL season. The ace hitter for the Mumbai Indians and captain of the Indian T20I team, Suryakumar Yadav, is reportedly being courted by KKR to join their team. Even though the club was led to victory by Shreyas Iyer in the 2024 Indian Premier League, the addition of Suryakumar may cause disarray among the team’s devoted supporters.
Further compounding the collateral damage MI has endured since the beginning of 2024 is the rumour that rival teams are contacting Rohit Sharma about captaincy roles that come with a silver lining. KKR, a team located in Kolkata, appears to be all in to make a trade with MI while keeping Iyer as the trading card, which may hint at Suryakumar’s possible return. For those who are unaware, Yadav played for KKR from 2014 till 2017, at which point MI hired him.
For Mumbai, Iyer will compete in the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament.
In related news, Iyer was refused a central contract by the BCCI for refusing to play in the country’s domestic cricket league. The right-hander, who was removed from the annual contract list, has returned to the organisation recently. But in addition to playing alongside Suryakumar for Mumbai in the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament, the 29-year-old gets named in the Duleep Trophy.

“The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association’s Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament will include Shreyas Iyer representing the Mumbai team. He will participate in the Mumbai vs. Jammu & Kashmir match, which is scheduled to begin on August 27 in Coimbatore, according to MCA joint secretary Deepak Patil.
