In the next ninety days, Kohli, Rohit, and Rahul will not play Twenty20 Internationals. Aakash Chopra

League competitions like the IPL show how quickly the T20 style of cricket is evolving. When it comes to evaluating a batter’s potential in the format, metrics such as strike rate and boundary rate are becoming increasingly significant in determining the value of a batsman’s performance. Questions regarding the futures of current Indian captain Rohit Sharma, former Indian captain Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul are becoming increasingly germane as the IPL 2023 has presented the Indian squad with an abundance of such options. Ravi Shastri recently opined that the team must look beyond its three senior players, and Aakash Chopra conveyed similar sentiments when he set a deadline of “90 days.”

Chopra, an IPL expert on Jio Cinema, echoed Shastri’s views on KL Rahul’s future in the shortest format of the game in light of Yashasvi Jaiswal‘s ascent and the availability of alternatives such as Shubman Gill and Mumbai opener Ishan Kishan.

He acknowledged that it would be difficult for players like Rohit, Kohli, and Rahul to acclimate to the format if India continued to play the aggressive brand of T20I cricket that they committed to playing in the previous T20 World Cup.

“His (Rahul’s) situation is not isolated in any sense, to begin with. I believe that the next generation of cricketers for this format is nearly ready, and that it will become increasingly difficult for the previous generation of players to adapt to the new format. If India continues to play T20 cricket in the same manner, as they stated they would in the previous T20 World Cup, many players from the previous generation will no longer be a part of the T20 scheme of things, Chopra told Hindustan Times.

“This is an ODI World Cup year, so India will play fewer T20I games in the remaining year regardless, but I doubt that Kohli, Rohit, or Rahul will play in any of those games.

You have no idea when Rahul will be actually available. This is why I believe things will shift within the next 90 days,” Chopra continued.
