Ace bowler Kagiso Rabada, who was playing for MI Cape Town in the just finished third season of the SA20 League, was sanctioned for using recreational drugs. Notably, during his time with Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2025, the cricket player had to return home midway due to “personal reasons” after testing positive for taking a prohibited substance.
The South African pacer has apologised for his ignominious behaviour and entered a guilty plea. Rabada has now arrived back in India and will probably soon rejoin the Gujarat Titans lineup for the rest of the season.
“I recently returned to South Africa from playing in the IPL for personal reasons, as has been publicised. I returned an unfavourable analytical finding for recreational drug usage, which is what caused this. Kagiso Rabada stated in a statement released by the Cricketers’ Association of South Africa.
“I sincerely apologise to everyone I have disappointed. I will always be grateful for the opportunity to play cricket. This is a far greater advantage than myself. It transcends my individual goals. I’m looking forward to playing the game I love again while I’m on a provisional suspension,” he continued.
I couldn’t have handled this on my own: Kagiso Rabada
Kagiso Rabada went on to express his sincere gratitude to the GT management and Cricket South Africa (CSA) for the much-needed support during these trying times. The 29-year-old, who made his Proteas debut in 2015, also thanked his family and friends for their understanding and unwavering support.
“I couldn’t have handled this on my own. I want to express my gratitude to Gujarat Titans, CSA, and my agent for their assistance. Additionally, I want to thank my legal team and SACA for their advice and assistance. Above all, I want to express my gratitude to my family and friends for their love and understanding,” the Johannesburg native continued.
“I will not be defined by this moment going forward. I’ll continue to work hard and play with enthusiasm and devotion to my profession, just like I always have,” he said.
