Indian people wanted the trophy back, and I'm lucky to captain this team: Rohit Sharma

Following his country’s victory in the T20 World CupIndian people wanted the trophy back, and I'm lucky to captain this team: Rohit Sharma, India skipper Rohit Sharma expressed gratitude to all of the game’s supporters. Following India’s victory parade, which drew thousands of spectators to Marine Drive and Wankhede Stadium, Rohit thanked everyone and said that the players had been fortunate to deliver the trophy back to India.

The 37-year-old continued by saying he feels fortunate to be leading this group and that the team is very exceptional. Notably, India lost to England by 10 wickets despite reaching the T20 World Cup 2022 semifinals under Rohit. They participated in the 2023 World Test Championship and ODI World Cup finals, but both times they were defeated by Australia.

After eleven long years, the captain and the senior players were now keen to win a major trophy. Rohit was thrilled to finally bring an ICC trophy home to India.

“I would like to thank the supporters on behalf of my squad and the BCCI! We’ve seen how much it means to them ever since we got to India. They have been wanting the trophy returned to India for the past eleven years! The supporters were a little more desperate to win the trophy than we were. This team is unique, and I feel privileged to be the team captain,” Rohit was reported by The Hindu to have said.

Similar to Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli is aware of the feelings associated with a World Cup victory. The star Indian batter said during the festivities that although he didn’t comprehend the veteran players’ feelings in 2011, he now does.

“The seniors were crying a lot when we won the World Cup in 2011, and I didn’t understand why.” We had won the World Cup, and I was young. But now that I’m an experienced player and have Rohit on board, it seems unique after all these years of playing. I have never saw Rohit display such emotion on the pitch before. We hugged while I was crying and he was crying as I ascended the stairs. It’s a unique moment, Kohli remarked.
