Less than a day after announcing his intention to retire from franchise cricket, young Pakistani fast bowler Ihsanullah has changed his mind. The choice was made in an emotional state, according to the 22-year-old, who had originally chosen to leave because he was frustrated after being left out of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 10 draft.
In PSL 8, Ihsanullah made his debut, putting on strong performances for the Multan Sultans.
He was selected for Pakistan’s Twenty20 International team after taking 22 wickets at an economy rate of 7.59. But he was sidelined for a long time and eventually lost his spot in the national team due to a serious elbow injury sustained during his first ODI series against New Zealand. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) came under fire for providing insufficient medical assistance after the injury and its subsequent poor handling became a contentious topic.
During Ihsanullah’s recuperation, Ali Tareen, the Multan Sultans’ owner, was instrumental in helping him, even offering financial support. Ihsanullah’s original announcement of retirement came after he failed to sell in the most recent PSL draft.
Ihsanullah announced his retirement on January 14 because he was frustrated by the lack of appreciation he received for his steady efforts. He explained that the choice was taken on the spur of the moment on January 15.
“I reverse my choice. Many people’s comments made me lose my mind, and I wasn’t chosen by any franchise. I intend to work diligently. Before the PSL, there are four months. I will eventually be chosen by the same individuals who didn’t choose me. Ihsanullah told TV channel Geo Super, “I don’t have any plans to retire.”
The way Ihsanullah’s injury was handled has drawn a lot of attention. Delays in diagnosis, poor treatment regimens, and a hastily scheduled operation by a surgeon with inadequate experience were all cited in an independent investigation. Due to the aforementioned circumstances, Ihsanullah has long-term physical impairments, such as the inability to fully straighten his arm.
