The men’s and women’s shortlists for the ICC Player of the Month awards have been revealed by the International Cricket Council (ICC), and it has been verified that players from the West Indies, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and Ireland are eligible.
The West Indies fast bowler Jayden Seales, Sri Lankan all-rounder Dunith Wellalage, and South Africa’s spinner Keshav Maharaj have all made the men’s award short list. Meanwhile, the women’s award short list includes Ireland’s Gaby Lewis, opener Gaby Lewis, and Sri Lankan batswoman Harshitha Samarawickrama.
ICC Men’s Player of the Month nominees for August:
Keshav Maharaj (South Africa)
Maharaj took 13 wickets to win Player of the Series in the two ICC World Test Championship matches against the West Indies. He is a strong candidate for a second Player of the Month title, which he previously won in April 2022. Three of the top four batters in the first innings and four of the top five in the second were among the four wickets he took in the drew Test in Port of Spain. During his team’s 40-run victory in the second Test in Guyana, he contributed five wickets.
Jayden Seales (West Indies)
Seales, the new-ball bowler from the West Indies, is on the shortlist after finishing the series against South Africa with 12 wickets, nine of which came in Guyana. This achievement enabled him to move up to a career-high 13th place in the ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings and take the top spot among West Indies bowlers.
Dunith Wellalage (Sri Lanka)
Because of his ODI performances, Wellalage was included to the men’s shortlist. After his team defeated India 2-0 in the series, the left-handed all-rounder—who had scores of 67 not out, 39, and two—was named Player of the Series. Additionally, he finished with seven wickets, five of which came from the third match.
ICC Women’s Player of the Month nominees for August:
Harshitha Samarawickrama (Sri Lanka)
Samarawickrama continued to play well after winning the Asia Cup during her tour of Ireland. With a strike rate of 169.66 in the two Twenty20 Internationals held in Dublin and a strike rate of 82.69 in the three One-Day Internationals held in Belfast, the elegant left-hander scored 151 runs.

She struck a match-winning 86 not out off 45 balls in the opening Twenty20 International, then with a knock of 105 in the second ODI, she became just the third Sri Lankan woman to score a century in an ODI.
Orla Prendergast (Ireland)
Ireland defeated Sri Lanka 2-1 in an ODI series, with 22-year-old Prendergast leading the way in runs scored. She was voted Player of the Match for her outstanding performance in the first ODI, as she scored 122 not out off 107 deliveries, grabbed three for 25, and took two catches. In the two T20Is, she contributed as well, scoring 29 and 38.
Gaby Lewis (Ireland)
Lewis achieved the best individual score for Ireland in the format with a knock of 119 in the second T20I encounter, scoring 158 runs at a strike rate of 146.29. She was out for the final two matches of the series due to a quad injury, but she scored nine in the opening ODI.
