Later on Thursday, April 10, the International Cricket Council (ICC) will begin a four-day meeting in Harare. For Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC), it is being heralded as a historic first.
According to a statement from the national board, “ZC will host the ICC Board and Committee Meetings this week, marking a major milestone for the country’s standing in the global game.”
The conference will include Jay Shah, the chair of the ICC, among others.
Following the two-day meeting in Harare on April 10 and 11, the members are anticipated to continue their discussions on April 12 and 13 to the famous Victoria Falls.
Although the meeting’s official agenda has not yet been released, the ICC delegates members may voice their opinions given that it takes place just one day after LA 28 officially affirmed cricket’s inclusion in the Olympic Games.
One of the biggest challenges facing the world cricket administration will be selecting the six men’s and women’s teams that will compete in the quadrennial Games. It is believed that the US team could receive an automatic spot out of the six. Naturally, it is unlikely that a formal decision will be made during the sessions.
“ICC Chairman Jay Shah, ICC Board members, and other important personalities in international cricket are among the high-level delegates anticipated. Critical governance, strategic, and operational issues influencing the sport’s global future will be the main topics of the meetings, according to the ZC release.
Tavengwa Mukuhlani, the chairman of ZC, called the holding of the meetings a great occasion for the country and the organisation. “This is a proud and historic moment for Zimbabwe Cricket and our country as a whole,” he stated. “We are ready to welcome the distinguished cricket leaders and to show off our country’s beauty, friendliness, and hospitality.
“This event underscores Zimbabwe’s growing role in the global cricketing landscape and presents us with a unique platform to engage with key stakeholders in shaping the future of the game.”
