After media reports indicated that their four-year India media-rights deal might be about to end early, the International Cricket Council (ICC) and JioStar have denied any fallout. According to the sources, Reliance Industries’ JioStar has officially informed the ICC that it would not be able to fulfil the remaining two years of the contract.
In addition to other commitments related to the existing rights cycle, JioStar would have withdrawn as the official broadcaster for the International Cricket Council T20 World Cup 2026, which is scheduled to take place in India and Sri Lanka, if the claim had been accurate.
“Recent media reports on the state of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) media rights arrangement in India have been noted by JioStar and the International Cricket Council. Neither organization’s stance is represented in these reports. According to the statement, which NDTV Sports cited, “Any indication that JioStar has withdrawn from the agreement is untrue.”
JioStar is still the ICC’s official media rights partner in India, and their current agreement is still in full effect.
The ICC and JioStar reaffirmed their commitment to providing cricket fans throughout India with uninterrupted, top-notch coverage by confirming in a joint statement that their $3 billion media-rights agreement is still in full effect. This explanation follows earlier media reports that said JioStar was about to terminate the contract because of the platform’s alleged large financial losses.
“JioStar is totally dedicated to upholding the terms and conditions of its contracts. Both institutions are still committed to provide fans throughout India with continuous, top-notch coverage of forthcoming ICC events, such as the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, one of the sport’s most eagerly awaited international competitions. Viewers, advertisers, and industry partners are unaffected, and preparations for these events are proceeding according to schedule. As long-standing business partners, ICC and JioStar keep in constant contact on business, operational, and strategic issues centred on how the collaboration may advance the sport,” the article continued.
Pakistan will play the Netherlands in the opening match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 at Colombo on February 7. The event is being co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. The date of the final is set for March 8.
