Throughout the five Test matches that England and India are currently playing, Joe Root has been in terrible form.

Ian Chappell believes Joe Root should stick to his normal personality and give up on Bazball.

In order for Joe Root to return to his peak, the legendary Ian Chappell believes that the Bazball strategy should be abandoned. Root has not been among the runs in the current five-match Test series between India and England.

In six innings, Root has only managed to score 77 runs at a pitiful average of 12.83. He has received a lot of criticism because he has been known to play some unconventional and calculated strokes. Even before the Bazball era, former Australian cricketer Ian Chappell claimed that Root was a rapid hitter and he didn’t understand why the top batter changed his approach.

“Joe Root scored quickly when playing regularly and had an extremely good record. “I don’t understand why he’s attempting to make drastic changes, and I’ve never been of the opinion that deliberate shots should be played,” Chappell told World Wide Sports.

Remarkably, since Brendon McCullum became England’s red-ball cricket head coach in the middle of 2022, Root has averaged over fifty runs a game. 49.33 is his average overall. Although the former England captain has delivered some spectacular blows while McCullum was in charge, the India tour hasn’t gone well for him thus far. Still, a guy like him may change the game at any time. With two games remaining, England is down 1-2. The supporters in England will be hoping that their best batsman finds his groove again and motivates the side to counterattack Rohit Sharma’s soldiers.

Ian Chappell on playing aggressive cricket: “It has to be according to the conditions and also who’s bowling.”

Under head coach Brendon McCullum and captain Ben Stokes, England has won 14 of the 21 Test matches while playing their aggressive brand of cricket. There have been a few batting collapses, though, similar to the one they faced at Rajkot during the third Test’s second innings when they were dismissed for a pitiful 122. People have responded by criticizing the high-risk, high-reward concept.

Depending on the bowler in use and the playing circumstances, Chappell recommended that players adopt an aggressive style of play.

“It’s not always possible; it depends on the circumstances and the bowler. While certain bowlers are much easier to score off than others, you still need to be ready to fight through a solid spell from a truly strong bowler and tell yourself that things will get easier as he gets going. You should always try to score runs; it should be your main priority. However, you must equally acknowledge that in certain situations and against particular bowlers, you can score more quickly than in others “.
