In order for Joe Root to return to his peak, the legendary Ian Chappell believes that the Bazball strategy should be abandoned. Root has not been among the runs in the current five-match Test series between India and England.
In six innings, Root has only managed to score 77 runs at a pitiful average of 12.83. He has received a lot of criticism because he has been known to play some unconventional and calculated strokes. Even before the Bazball era, former Australian cricketer Ian Chappell claimed that Root was a rapid hitter and he didn’t understand why the top batter changed his approach.
“Joe Root scored quickly when playing regularly and had an extremely good record. “I don’t understand why he’s attempting to make drastic changes, and I’ve never been of the opinion that deliberate shots should be played,” Chappell told World Wide Sports.
Remarkably, since Brendon McCullum became England’s red-ball cricket head coach in the middle of 2022, Root has averaged over fifty runs a game. 49.33 is his average overall. Although the former England captain has delivered some spectacular blows while McCullum was in charge, the India tour hasn’t gone well for him thus far.
