"I wouldn't say Delhi Capitals had a poor bowling performance" - Anjum Chopra evaluates DC-W's bowling after loss to GG-W.

On Friday, March 7, the Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Giants faced off in Match 17 of the Women’s Premier League 2025 at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium. With three balls left and five wickets taken, the Giants won the match in an exciting fashion.

Meg Lanning, the captain, scored an incredible 92 runs off 57 balls to help DC-W reach a solid total of 177 on the board when batting first. Dayalan Hemalatha (1 off 7) delivered the Giants an early blow in response. But Harleen Deol and Beth Mooney (44 off 35) put up a vital 85-run partnership to help their team get back into the chase. Harleen continued to score and finished undefeated at 70 off 49 balls, even as wickets were coming at the other end.

The early lead was not able to be capitalised upon by the DC-W bowlers. The needed run rate continued to increase in the middle overs. At one point, eight wickets were in hand and 66 runs off 36 balls were required. With three balls remaining, the Giants managed to find their way to the goal.

Anjum Chopra, a former Indian cricket player who is now a broadcaster, evaluated Delhi’s bowling performance. The team, in her opinion, did not bowl poorly. They actually did a good job carrying out their plans, but the Giants’ batting won the game.

“I wouldn’t say the Delhi Capitals bowled badly, but I do think the Gujarat Giants batted well.

Their bowling lineup is among the greatest, and they did a good job carrying out their goals. They maintained their composure, applied pressure, and avoided veering from their field placements or bowling outside off-stump. “Players like Ashleigh Gardner and Deandra Dottin have the ability to clear the pitch, and they succeeded in doing so,” Chopra stated on JioHotstar.

DC-W has now completed all of their games. They lead the table with a 5-3 win-loss record and have earned a spot in the playoffs. However, with a 4-3 win-loss record, GG-W is currently in second place in the standings and will play the Mumbai Indians Women on Monday, March 10. They have a chance to qualify for the playoffs as well.
