After sharing the Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) dressing room with the former India captain during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Dewald Brevis commended MS Dhoni for his modest manner. Midway through the IPL, the South African batsman replaced the injured Gurjapneet Singh for INR 2.2 crore.
According to Brevis, Dhoni’s chamber door is constantly open, with the exception of when he is asleep. During the tournament, the right-handed batter reported that he visited the wicketkeeper-batter’s room multiple times and learnt about his interests while watching cricket matches.
“I’ll never forget it, like every time I tell somebody it’s incredible. My four years [in the IPL] were incredible. It was amazing. And I had to go through the entire voyage as though it had been lovely. The only thing I can say about MS is that I found his humility and character to be particularly noteworthy. On his YouTube channel, Brevis explained to AB de Villiers how he spends his time with players and with people when he is not on the pitch.
“The door to his room is constantly open. It’s exclusively closed when he’s sleeping. He continued, “And I found myself in his room a few times just sitting there with whatever he’s busy, like talking to him about his hobbies, watching cricket, and yeah, that’s just amazing, and just to see what he does like off the pitch, and like everyone knows what he does on the pitch and at training, and yeah, it’s very special.”
Brevis made an impression with his batting performances, even though CSK ended the season with the lowest points total.
In six innings, the 22-year-old scored 225 runs at an incredible strike rate of 180. Brevis is expected to stay with the five-time champions, despite claims that CSK is trying to restructure their team in preparation for the upcoming campaign.
