“I think Ashwin is superior to Shardul Thakur,” Krishnamachari Srikkanth said, advocating for Ashwin to beat Thakur in the second Test matchup with South Africa.

"Even if Ashwin doesn’t pick up five-wicket hauls, he will pick up a couple (of wickets)," Srikkanth remarked.

Ashwin is superior to Shardul Thakur," Krishnamachari Srikkanth said

Prior to India’s second Test match against South Africa, former cricketer Krishnamachari Srikkanth argued that Ravichandran Ashwin should be included in the playing XI even if Ravindra Jadeja returned. Because of Jadeja’s back spasm, Ashwin was included in the first test; nevertheless, the problem emerged after Jadeja resumed training.

With just 41 runs in 19 overs and one wicket taken, Ashwin proved to be India’s most economical bowler in Centurion.

Because of the spin duo’s ability to put pressure on the Proteas batsman, Srikkanth suggested Ashwin be chosen over Shardul Thakur. Even though India decided to go with a four-man pace attack in the first Test, the former opener for India said that Ashwin and Jadeja might work well together because he can produce economical spells and cause problems for the South African lineup in the next Test in Cape Town.

“I’m still going to be Ashwin. Ashwin is superior to Shardul Thakur, in my opinion. I am going to play Ashwin instead of Shardul. He will take a few wickets, even if he doesn’t have five-wicket performances. He’ll probably bowl tight lines and mix in nicely with Jadeja. You never know when these two will combine to take four or five wickets. That ought to be sufficient; he would have fulfilled his obligations, Srikkanth stated on his YouTube channel.

Dropping someone off after their debut is unfair. Srikanth

Notably, Cape Town will host the commencement of the second and final Test on January 3. In a same spirit, Team India may think about making changes to their starting lineup in an attempt to tie the series. Considering the dynamics within the team, the 64-year-old highlighted the importance of equity and argued against Prasidh Krishna being immediately benched after just one game. Before the pivotal second match, questions were raised about Thakur’s suitability, suggesting a possible lineup change for the Indian team.

You do have a chance to pressure their hitters with your spinners, if that is at all possible. You could try something like that and defeat them in flight. I’ll let go of Shardul Thakur. It’s unjust to drop Prasidh Krishna at this point. He is a one-time Test player. Rejecting someone after their debut is harsh. “Shardul Thakur is not a suitable candidate,” said Srikkanth.
