I support Rohit’s decision to stay back with family, I’d have done the same thing: Travis Head

"I would've done the same thing if I was in that position," Travis Head said of Rohit Sharma's late joining of the Indian team in Australia to be with his family.

I support Rohit's decision to stay back with family, I'd have done the same thing: Travis Head

The Indian skipper Rohit Sharma‘s choice to remain with his family and later join the team for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25 has been endorsed by star Australian batsman Travis Head. Rohit is anticipated to remain with his wife Ritika Sadjeh and newborn kid, and miss the opening Test match at Perth Stadium, which begins on Friday, November 22.

The flamboyant Australian batter stated that if he had been Rohit, he would not have changed a thing during Australia’s November 18 practice session in Perth.

“I completely agree with his decision. In the same circumstance, I would take the same action. As cricketers, we make many sacrifices, enjoy a very privileged lifestyle, and receive care, but we also miss out on certain significant life events. If I had been in that situation, I would have taken the same course of action. “He’s made the right decision,” Head.

Intriguingly, Head had missed the home white-ball series against Pakistan in order to spend more time with his wife, Jess, who was expecting their second child.

Head stated that he will also miss South Australia’s Sheffield Shield match, saying, “I’ll probably make decisions in the future around family more, and what drives me to play is probably more my family and my teammates.”

There will be another test match, but this time it will be significantly different: Michael Clarke.

Michael Clarke, the former captain of Australia, too offered Rohit support, sharing his own story and stating that the happiness of fatherhood cannot even be compared to winning the World Cup.

My daughter’s birth was the happiest day of my life. You can’t compare it to anything, much less a Test match, a victory, or even the World Cup. Family comes first. A Test match will happen again, but this time it’s completely different. Rohit will be missed. His leadership will be lost, but if I had been in his shoes, I would have taken the exact same course of action,” Clarke said.

The November 18 report states that Rohit would be included in the team for the Perth Test, where India will be captained by Jasprit Bumrah.

Starting on November 30, the Mumbai batter is anticipated to participate in India’s two-day warm-up match at Canberra’s Manuka Oval. On December 6, Rohit will return to lead the pink-ball Test at Adelaide Oval.
