I laugh when Virat Kohli is compared to Babar Azam, Steve Smith, or Joe Root: Mohammad Amir

"Not just in one format, but in all three formats, Virat is the greatest batsman of this generation," added Amir.

I laugh when Virat Kohli is compared to Babar Azam, Steve Smith, or Joe Root: Mohammad Amir

One of the best batters of the present age is without a doubt Virat Kohli. Throughout his remarkable career, cricket fans have drawn comparisons between him and his peers, including Joe Root, Steve Smith, Babar Azam, and Kane Williamson. Certain analysts and fans have begun to dismiss the former India captain due to his poor performance in the red-ball arena.

Mohammad Amir, a fast bowler for Pakistan, still maintains, nonetheless, that no batter in the modern era can match Kohli’s aura. It is quite hard to replicate the number of games that Kohli has won for his squad, according to the former.

“This generation’s best player is Virat Kohli.

I find it amusing when he is compared to Joe Root, Steve Smith, or Babar Azam. Since Virat Kohli has won so many games for India, it seems impossible for any one player to be compared to him. Amir stated on the Cricket Predicta Show that Virat is the best batsman of this generation, not just in one format but in all three.

In addition, the left-arm speedster commended Kohli’s work ethic and recalled how the Delhi batsman recovered strongly after his poor 2014 performance in England. Taking Kohli’s wicket was crucial in the 2017 Champions Trophy final between India and Pakistan, according to Amir, as the right-handed batsman might have assisted the Men in Blue in chasing down the enormous 339-run total.

“What distinguishes Virat Kohli from other players is his work ethic. The fact that he recovered from his poor spell in England in 2014 and continued to play brilliantly for the next ten years was no small accomplishment. We won the final thanks in large part to his wicket in the 2017 Champions Trophy final. Since everyone is aware of Virat’s outstanding record while chasing runs, we would have lost the final if he hadn’t been removed,” he continued.

With the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25 still going on, Kohli has been having trouble scoring runs. Just 126 runs at an average of 31.50 have been scored by him in five innings, with 100 of those runs occurring in the second innings of the first Test match in Perth. Beginning on Boxing Day, when India and Australia face off in the fourth Test match at the storied Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), he will want to put his best foot forward.
