After an unusual 43-day layoff, the Indian cricket team is scheduled to play two highly-anticipated Test matches against Bangladesh. On Thursday, September 19, the historic MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai will host the first of the two Tests.
Ban is entering the tour having defeated Pakistan earlier this month in a historic first-ever Test series. When Najmul Hossain Shanto‘s team defeated Pakistan 2-0 at home, it stunned the cricket community. Legendary Indian cricketers Harbhajan Singh and Suresh Raina have warned India not to take Bangladesh lightly following this historic outcome. Dinesh Karthik, on the other hand, took a different tack, believing that India won’t be very concerned about the Bangla Tigers.
“In my opinion, Ban won’t provide a challenge to India. Ban has performed well in Pakistan, but I don’t think they’ll cause India any problems—beating India in India is a huge feat, Karthik said in a video.
India will play for the first time since losing their ODI series 0–2 to Sri Lanka last month. With the goal of maintaining their lead in the standings, Rohit Sharma and company will resume their World Test Championship (WTC) adventure. Bangladesh, however, has shot up to No. 4 on the rankings after their victory over Pakistan.

In the past, India has dominated the red-ball circuit over Bangladesh. The two sides have played 13 times since 2000; India has won 11 of the meetings, while Bangladesh has not yet claimed a win. Under the direction of Habibul Bashar in 2007 and Mushfiqur Rahim in 2015, there were just two draws.

The final Test series between India and Bangladesh was in 2022. In Chittagong, the first Test was won by the former by 188 runs, and in Dhaka, the second Test was won by three wickets.
