'I can't pick myself' – Umesh Yadav hopes for return to Indian team

Since June 2023, 37-year-old Umesh Yadav has not represented India. But with strong domestic cricket performances, the right-arm quick aims to return to the national team. Additionally, he wants to improve his physical condition and rejoin the team.

Umesh Yadav has represented the Men in Blue in 57 Test matches, 75 ODIs, and nine T20Is. In the three formats, he has taken 170, 106, and 12 wickets, respectively. He was a workhorse who could bowl for extended periods of time in difficult conditions during his best performances in the red-ball style.

Umesh Yadav stood out from the majority of other Indian seamers because he performed better at home than in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia) nations, which provide faster bowlers with more support. He took 101 wickets in 32 Test matches at home at a strike rate of 48 and an average of 25.89. At a strike rate of 61.50 and an average of 41.41, he took 46 wickets from 15 games in SENA countries.

“Comeback preparations are finished. I am unable to choose myself. I’ll need to get in shape and play some games. I’ll have to play competitive cricket in order to return. “My goal is to recover and rejoin the team,” Umesh Yadav said to Sports Tak.

Umesh Yadav also reflected on his path to the international scene and said he never imagined that he would play for India in the future.

“I never imagined when I first started playing cricket that I would play this, that, and represent India. I’m a quick bowler by nature. Since I was a young child, I have been bowling quickly. I never attended a nets or academy. I never imagined playing for India because of this. I continued to play. I was instructed to play this and that by someone. Sitting here, playing for India, is the son of a coal miner. Some things, in my opinion, are supposed to happen. The Nagpur native continued, “I always say that fast bowlers are natural; you cannot make them fast bowlers.”
