I am aware that England fears David Warner, but he doesn’t have much of a track record in this country. – Michael Vaughan prior of England’s Ashes summer

David Warner

On a good day, Australia’s David Warner can overwhelm any opponent, but the outlook for Ashes 2023 is not favorable for the southpaw. There was considerable debate as to whether the opener should travel to England given his poor form in Test cricket, but Cricket Australia has endorsed him and also included Marcus Harris, who has a strong track record in English conditions. Thus, Warner’s position in the starting eleven is currently uncertain.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan stated, in reference to the cricketer, that the Ben Stokes-led side fears him but will not be overly concerned due to his dismal record in England. The 36-year-old has participated in 13 Tests in England, accumulating 651 runs. In his previous series against England, the opener had a forgettable season, so Vaughan predicts that the host team will be considerably more relaxed this time around.

“With regards to David Warner, I am aware that England fears him, and I am aware that the captain is concerned that Warner could emerge from the nets and have one of those series. And he has never actually done it in England. He does not have much experience in this area. I am aware that Anderson and Broad enjoy bowling to him. But the modern game appears to be more open than ever to unconventional thinking. He is not required to open the batting,” Vaughan told The Age prior to the 2023 Ashes.

Could they accommodate David Warner between five and six? Vaughan questioned

David Warner is a fantastic spinner, and once the Duke ball has been used for 30 overs, it won’t swing much, so Vaughan believes he can be a valuable asset to the team at number five or six.

“Warner is such a skilled spin player. He is such a skilled performer when the ball is stationary. After thirty-odd overs, the ball stops moving in English conditions. Could they accommodate him between five and six?” Vaughan added.
