The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on May 16 that former cricketer Hrishikesh Kanitkar would be the new head coach of the India A squad for their forthcoming tour to England. When the squad arrives in the UK following the conclusion of the Indian Premier League 2025, they will play three four-day games in England, one of which will be against the senior India side.
Assam native Subhadeep Ghosh, who will coach the pitch, and Troy Cooley, who has been named bowling coach, will join Kanitkar on the coaching team.
On May 25 and 26, the India A team is anticipated to depart in groups for England.
A four-day first-class match against the England Lions at Canterbury will kick off the tour on May 30. Northampton will host the second four-day match starting on June 6. Following these games, on June 13 and 16, India A will meet the India Senior squad in a private match in Beckenham. Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill are anticipated to join the India A team prior to the second game against the England Lions.
The final week of May is when the India Senior team will be chosen. Due to the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), the original selection date of May 23 has been rescheduled, and the final team will now be revealed later. Almost two weeks before the first Test, which starts at Headingley on June 20, the senior team is expected to leave for England on June 6.
With Kanitkar’s hiring, the 42-year-old is now anticipated to go with the team as per the usual schedule, despite rumours that Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir will travel to England early. During this tour, India will play five Test matches. The remaining Test matches will take place at Birmingham (starting on July 2), Lord’s (starting on July 10), Manchester (starting on July 23), and The Oval (starting on July 31) following the first Test at Headingley.
