How does India's Champions Trophy 2025 team compare to ODI World Cup 2023 team?

India captain Rohit Sharma and top selector Ajit Agarkar of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) attended a news conference on Saturday, January 18, to reveal a 15-man squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025, which Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates will co-host.

Four players from the team who participated in the 2023 ODI World Cup, which they lost to Australia in Ahmedadad, are absent from the current roster. Mohammed Siraj, who shared the new ball in practically every match during the ODI World Cup, is this time the biggest miss. India has chosen Arshdeep Singh in his place, who will bring a fresh dimension with his left-arm angle.

The most significant addition, however, must be Rishabh Pant, who defeated Sanju Samson, another formidable opponent. Pant was recuperating from the terrible accident he had in December 2022, hence he was not included in the squad for the ODI World Cup.

Both spin-bowling all-rounder Axar Patel and opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal have merited their places in the Champions Trophy team.

Axar was a member of the 50-over World Cup team, but he suffered an injury prior to the competition, and Ravichandran Ashwin, who recently announced his retirement from international cricket, took his place. For the England series that comes before the Champions Trophy, Yashasvi has been called up for the first time for an ODI. Another recent addition to the team is Washington Sundar.

In addition to Siraj, Shardul Thakur, Ishan Kishan, and Suryakumar Yadav have failed to maintain their positions from the ODI World Cup. After Hardik hurt his ankle playing against Bangladesh, the Baroda all-rounder was replaced in the ODI World Cup squad by Prasidh Krishna. The Champions Trophy squad does not include the Karnataka pacer.

India’s Champions Trophy 2025 squad: Rohit Sharma (C), Shubman Gill (VC), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (WK), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant (WK), Ravindra Jadeja
