The Hobart Hurricanes have signed veteran New Zealand women’s batter Suzie Bates as an overseas replacement player for the 2018 Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) season. Bates, who was first passed over in the WBBL draft, now has another chance to play in the league. The 37-year-old, who leads the WT20Is in runs scored, will take Danni Wyatt-Hodge of England’s team.
Wyatt-Hodge will be leaving the Hobart Hurricanes roster for the second half of the tournament as he heads to South Africa with the England squad.
Bates, who played for the Adelaide Strikers, Sydney Sixers, and Perth Scorchers in past WBBL seasons, offers a plethora of experience to the Hurricanes.
She would be Danni’s ideal replacement: Salliann Beams
She has played in 100 WBBL games over the course of eight seasons, so the Hurricanes will be happy to have her on their team. Salliann Beams, the Hurricanes’ general manager of high performance, talked about Bates’ signing.
As soon as we learnt that Suzie had not been chosen in the WBBL|10 Draft, it only seemed logical to add her to our WBBL team. Knowing that she would be available to replace Danni, we felt she would be the ideal choice. When we lose someone with Danni’s calibre in our lineup, she will supply us with an experienced operator and more than 130 World T20 cricket matches,” Beams stated in a statement that cited.
Bates, meanwhile, will play the last three games of the tournament with the Hurricanes, with the option to stay longer if they go to the finals.

Bates will become a member of the Hurricanes’ roaster, which currently consists of international players like Lizelle Lee and Chloe Tryon.
