Hemang Badani, the head coach of the Delhi Capitals (DC), explained why Karun Nair was given a chance in the most recent match against the Mumbai Indians. The former India player told a fascinating tale about the Vidarbha hitter, whose consistent performances have been causing a stir in the cricket community.
Since the Capitals had already discovered a winning lineup without the 33-year-old hitter in the starting lineup, there was a lot of conjecture about whether Nair would play in the IPL this season. However, Faf du Plessis’ injury gave him the opportunity to play as an impact substitute, and against the Mumbai Indians, he put up a strong 89 off 40.
According to Coach Hemang Badani, Nair was desperate for a game this season and kept nagging the coaching staff about when he would receive one.
“For the past three years, this boy has not participated in the IPL. This year, he has just nine First-Class hundreds. He was desperate for an opportunity. Awaiting the park entrance. “When am I going to get a game?” he has been asking me. Will this one be mine? He often asked if he could spend a bit more time in the middle, even while in the nets. According to the Hindustan Times, Badani stated, “He has been itching to play, and that was something special.”
Karun Nair‘s outstanding year at home
While playing domestic cricket for Vidarbha, Nair had an incredible season. He amassed 863 runs in the Ranji Trophy and 255 runs at an average of 42.50 in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT). But he was the most dominant batter in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, which was his greatest tournament of the season.
In the List-A campaign, Nair amassed a staggering 779 runs at an incredible average of 389.50, including five hundreds and one half-century. Regarding Vidarbha’s performance, they were quarterfinalists in the SMAT during the domestic season, advanced to the Vijay Hazare Trophy finals, and took home the Ranji Trophy trophy.
