Heather Knight comments on England women’s aggressive mentality, saying, “We became a bit of a smarter team.”

"We became a bit of a smarter tea, we played on bigger boundaries, wickets that did a little bit more in the powerplay, so it wasn't really easy to attack then," Knight stated.

Heather Knight comments on England women's aggressive mentality

The Heather Knight-led England women’s team has been doing admirably for more than a year and a half. The skipper claims that England’s women have gotten more astute as they have adjusted to a more modern and aggressive playstyle.

Since Jon Lewis took over as the team’s head coach in 2022, the team’s mission has been much more apparent. Playing an extremely aggressive style of cricket, the team’s strategies appear to be effective thus far.

England’s captain, Heather Knight, stated that the team has become wiser and will face the White Ferns with experience from their past matches as the English women prepare to host New Zealand women in three ODIs and five T20Is beginning next week.

It wasn’t really easy to attack back then because we became a bit of a smarter tea and played on bigger boundaries and wickets that did a little bit more in the powerplay. We gained some intelligence and learned how to adjust slightly to various situations,” Knight told ESPNcricinfo.

“We learned a lot from that tour, but sometimes it’s going to be difficult to attack in the powerplay. The idea was to sort of go from ball one and keep the foot down, but that isn’t always going to be possible and sometimes there’s going to be little bumps along the road,” she continued.

All we have to do is keep improving: Heather Knight

It’s important to note that, since December 2022, they have won 21 of the 27 T20Is they have played and have only lost two of the 13 ODIs they have finished. Knight claims that the England women have also learned a great deal from their most recent series against Pakistan.

“It’s our responsibility to keep improving, to play the cricket we want to play, and to win those difficult games. Take the Derby match, for example; it wasn’t always the most exciting to watch. In that situation, I suppose it’s just a matter of getting the job done and attempting to explain that, although we weren’t able to play the way we wanted to, we were able to play smart and adjust to the circumstances,” Knight said.
