Head coach Rahul Dravid is optimistic about India's chances in the West Indies since they "have the ability to counteract different situations."

The most notable aspect of head coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma’s tenure thus far has been Team India’s innovative and aggressive batting strategy in limited-overs cricket. But they have had to adjust that mentality and require batters to play more calm knocks due to the conditions in the Caribbean.

All eyes are on the Indian team’s approach to dealing with the uncertain conditions in the West Indies as the massive cricket match, T20 World Cup 2024, enters the pivotal Super Eight stage.

After defeating the United States in Group A to secure their spot, the Men in Blue are now in a difficult group that also includes Australia, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh. It would be important for India to rapidly adapt to the changing conditions since their three Super Eight games will be played over five days at various sites.

“There is no doubt about that. There are times and situations where it’s necessary to be aware of the surroundings. I believe that occasionally in Twenty20 cricket we just talk about moving the needle forward, moving the needle forward. Nevertheless, Dravid noted during the pre-game press conference that cricket is a highly condition-specific game.

It’s among the few remaining sports in which the playing surface has such a significant influence on players’ real skill levels, performance levels, and acceptable performance levels. In one particular sport we play, the surface matters a great deal and needs to be taken into account constantly,” he continued.

Attempting to make wise decisions: Rahul Dravid

The unpredictable Caribbean courses necessitate promptly adjusting their strategy each game, according to Team India head coach Rahul Dravid. It’s interesting that he likened it to the USA’s 2024 T20 World Cup leg, where batters had to adjust to New York quite a bit. Furthermore, he recalled the previous major event that took place in Australia, when each venue had slightly different conditions.

“I believe that what we seen in the US and New York has to be taken into account for both our team and other teams. Everyone, in my opinion, had to do it. There were moments when you had to take things into account, even in Australia [at the most recent T20 World Cup. It is not possible for every wicket to be the same or to be Hyderabad. That’s something more we should be proud of, in my opinion. We’re attempting, I believe, to be as astute in our scenario assessment and decision making as well,” he remarked.

India’s expertise, experience, and adaptability to various circumstances continue to inspire confidence in the coach. In order to improve their odds of winning, avoiding the risk method in New York recommended a mental shift.

Our belief is that we possess the expertise, understanding, and capability to handle all scenarios that can arise. We’re looking at things like the scores of previous games that have been played here, but once more, I believe you have to have an open mind. That seems like a crucial point. Even if you have all the information and statistics, things can occasionally turn out to be extremely different from what you had anticipated,” Dravid said in closing.
