At the Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur on Saturday, April 19, 14-year-old wonder Vaibhav Suryavanshi of the Rajasthan Royals made his IPL debut against the Lucknow Super Giants, making him the league’s youngest debutant ever. Alongside fellow left-hander Yashasvi Jaiswal, the teenager started the batting after entering as an Impact Sub.
The seasoned Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur bowled Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who made an immediate impression by hitting a six on his opening delivery. Following the brief appearance, his coach, Manish Ojha, revealed some information about the cricket player, including what he eats.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi was floored by Rishabh Pant after smashing 34 off just 20 deliveries.
“Instructions hain, mutton nahi khana hai usko.” Pizza hata diya hai uske diet chart mein se [according to the guidelines, he is not permitted to eat mutton]. His diet plan no longer includes pizza. He simply enjoys mutton and chicken. He used to adore pizza because he is a child. He no longer eats it, though. He used to consume all of the mutton we gave him, regardless of how much we supplied. He appears rather plump because of this,” Ojha told the Times of India.
“He’ll make significant progress. Given how he began the innings, I can assure you that he will score a lot of runs in the upcoming games. He is a batter without fear. He has repeatedly expressed his admiration for Brian Lara. However, he is a hybrid of Brian Lara and Yuvraj Singh. “He is just as aggressive as Yuvraj,” he continued.
Up until now, Suryavasnhi, who the Royals had acquired for INR 1.1 crore during the November mega auction, had been benched. But when captain Sanju Samson suffered an abdominal injury, one of the available spots became available, thus the RR management chose to give the young player an opportunity after telling him to “get ready for your IPL debut.”
“He was overjoyed. After his practice yesterday, he called me to let me know that he would be playing against the Lucknow Super Giants. He stated that Dravid Sir and the management had called him. He was overjoyed. but tense. Simply maintain your composure and play as you have. Chakke waala ball ayega to marunga, rukunga nahi [would not hesitate to strike the ball for a six] was what the coach explained.
What happened during the game?
Although Suryavanshi and Jaiswal’s opening partnership gave the Rajasthan Royals a strong foundation, a few fast wickets put them under pressure during the thrilling match between the two teams. With Shubham Dubey and Dhruv Jurel in the middle, the Royals required nine of the last over due to LSG’s disciplined bowling. The pair lost by just two runs, though, as they were unable to match pacer Avesh Khan’s skilfully delivered yorkers.
