Hazlewood Shines Against West Indies as Australia Clinch Victory in Barbados Test

Josh Hazlewood then took over at Bridgetown, Barbados, quickly dismissing Roston Chase, Brandon King, and John Campbell in the eleventh and thirteenth overs. The home team was 56/5 in the 15th over when Keacy Karty was removed, and they most likely had given up on chasing the total.

In the first Test of the Frank Worrell Trophy 2025, Australia was 65/4 at one point in the third innings as they attempted to create a difficult fourth-inning target for the West Indies to chase. But while the Australian lower middle order batsmen Travis Head (61 off 95), Beau Webster (63 off 120), and Alex Carey (65 off 75) revelled and helped their team collect 310 runs, they relinquished control and made numerous catches.

In the first over of the innings itself, Mitch Starc got Kraigg Brathwaite out, putting the West Indies on the defensive against Australia’s ferocious pace attack with 301 to chase in the fourth innings. In Test cricket, this was Starc’s 19th wicket in the opening over of an innings since 2015, which is the most for a bowler during that time.

With just the lower-order batsmen still to bat, the Windies’ collapse continued when Pat Cummins thrashed Shai Hope six overs later. Shamar Joseph and Justin Greaves, who took 5/87 in the third innings, did display some tenacity by scoring 55 runs for the ninth wicket, but by that point, there was no hope left.

Australia won brilliantly in Barbados by 159 runs after quickly taking the final two wickets. Head’s two half-centuries in the low-scoring encounter earned him the title of Player of the encounter.

In summary, Australia scored 180 runs in the first innings (Travis Head 59, Usman Khawaja 47; Jayden Seales 5-60, Shamar Joseph 4-46).

West Indies 190 in the first inning (Mitch Starc 3-65), Roston Chase 44, Shai Hope 48

Australia scored 310 runs in the second innings (Shamar Joseph 587, Travis Head 61, Beau Webster 63, and Alex Carey 65).

Josh Hazlewood 5-43; Shamar Joseph 44; West Indies second innings 141

Australia prevailed by 159 runs as a result.
