Hayley Matthews is questionable for the third and final match of the West Indies’ tour of England because of a shoulder issue that kept her out of the second ODI in Leicester.
On Thursday, a doctor in London will examine Hayley Matthews’ left shoulder problem, which she made worse after falling in the field during the first ODI in Derby last Friday.
England may win the third and final game on Saturday in Taunton to finish the tour after winning the first ODI by 108 runs and winning the T20I series 3-0.
Hayley Matthews won the T20Is player of the series award despite her team losing all of their games.
She was the leading run scorer overall with 177 runs at an average of 88.50 and a strike rate of 137.20, including an unbeaten century in the first game of the series at Canterbury. In the third game at Chelmsford, she scored 71 runs in an innings while taking 3 for 32 with the ball.
“She’s going to London tomorrow morning, so we’ll know more then,” West Indies Women’s head coach Shane Deitz stated following his team’s Wednesday night loss to Leicester by 143 runs. “Hopefully we’ll get some good news tomorrow.”
She scored 91 runs in Derby with opening partner Qiana Joseph, who struggled to score throughout the T20I series but made 62 and missed the second ODI owing to sickness. Deitz, however, was more hopeful that Joseph would go back to Taunton.
“I was hoping she’d be okay today, but she got on the team bus and looked terrible so we sent her back to bed,” Deitz stated. “Hopefully, she will arrive in a few days. The other day, she played pretty well. Fingers crossed, she’s improving with time with the team. She’ll be fine for the upcoming game, I’m rather certain.”
