Matthew Hayden, a former Australian cricket player, thinks Tristan Stubbs can have a significant effect for South Africa in the 2023–25 World Test Championship final. The ‘Ultimate Test’ between the Temba Bavuma-led side and Australia is scheduled to start on June 11 at London’s Lord’s Cricket Ground.
Hayden acknowledged that, like former cricket player Kevin Pietersen for England, Stubbs may be an X-factor.
He acknowledged that, like Pietersen did against the Australians, the young player may emerge and dominate the opponent.
“I believe that someone like Tristan Stubbs can be somewhat of an X-factor. Hayden told Star Sports, “It’s like Kevin Pietersen was in the England team against Australia, who can come out and start to dominate.”
Hayden said that the cricketer, who was born in Cape Town, is a traditional hitter and a strong individual. He admitted that Stubbs might pose a serious danger to the reigning champs by using his massive body position.
His hitting prowess has been demonstrated during the IPL. Although that isn’t really relevant, he is a highly strong unit. An extremely traditional ball hitter. He is tall, has a large body, and has excellent hands that he can use to strike the ground. Therefore, he can pose a threat,” he continued.

Stubbs can play a significant role for South Africa in the final, according to recent remarks made by former SA national coach Mark Boucher. He emphasised Stubbs’ impressive domestic cricket performances, which secured him a spot in the Test team after he shown his ability in the red-ball format.
According to ESPNcricinfo, Boucher stated, “Tristan Stubbs has returned and played a lot of domestic cricket and basically forced his way into the Test side because of the runs that he’s got.”
