I have not yet reached the level to be compared to Ravichandran Ashwin: Varun Chakravarthy

I have not yet reached the level to be compared to Ravichandran Ashwin: Varun Chakravarthy

Some have been comparing Chakravarthy to Ravichandran Ashwin, his former colleague from Tamil Nadu. But according to the spinner for the Kolkata Knight Riders, he hasn’t even come close to matching the great off-spinner’s skill level. Chakravarthy said that Ashwin is only returning to the T20 system, but he has performed well for India in all three formats.

When Varun Chakravarthy played in the 2021 T20 World Cup, it wasn’t a wonderful first time for the Indian squad. The mystery spinner has, however, taken 20 wickets from eight games at an average of 11.70 since making a comeback in the series against Bangladesh last year.

“It is significant to compare him to me. All three formats have been played by Ashwin. All I’m doing is returning. I’m not yet at a point where I can be likened to him. Even Nevertheless, everyone wants to play for a long time when they join the Indian squad. I’m going through my process. Wherever possible, let my hard effort lead me. That’s the superior option. I’m not considering taking someone else’s place.

Filling Ashwin’s shoes is a big task.

He has more than 500 Test wickets under his belt. On the eve of the second Twenty20 International in Chennai, Varun declared, “I am not even close yet.”

I strongly advise everyone to participate in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy: Varun Chakravarthy

In order to improve their skills, Chakravarthy encouraged his fellow athletes to take part in competitions such as the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He acknowledged that he has become a better player as a result of the home T20 league.

“Domestic cricket is played at a very high level. It’s on par with the IPL. I strongly advise everyone to participate in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. We play on a little field, which is really difficult. Playing SMAT is rather difficult for me as well. It has undoubtedly improved me, kept me alert, and allowed me to think strategically,” Varun remarked.

When Chakravarthy discussed his bowling strategy, he stated that he first tries to determine how the hitters are approaching him. He follows his instincts to succeed when he observes the batters doing something new.

“The strategy will remain the same at first. I’ll observe how they try to get close to me. Everything is instinctive. “Basically, you have plans for certain batters, but you have to trust your gut if they’re trying something different,” Varun explained.

“Evaluating the batter, learning their release shots, and seeing if they have added a new shot to their arsenal is the first step in preparation. Yes, I do that research. I create some calculations based on that and the pitch conditions. Certain pitches are better suited for some shots than others. Thus, I make plans appropriately,” he said.

After going three-for in the opening Twenty20 International match against England, Chakravarthy was named Player of the Match. In the second match on Saturday, January 25, at his home field, Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, he will try to extend his winning streak.
