The CSK will not abandon their fundamental beliefs and methods simply because they haven’t performed well in the current IPL, according to batting coach Michael Hussey.
The five-time winners’ chances of qualifying for the playoffs were dashed earlier this week when they lost to Punjab Kings by four wickets at home. In the ten games they have played this season, CSK has suffered eight defeats. In their final four IPL 2025 games, they will try to compete for pride.
“Just because things haven’t gone well this year doesn’t mean we’re going to freak out and toss everything out. However, there are a few locations that need to be cleaned up. On the eve of their matchup with Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday, May 2, Michael Hussey stated, “There have been a lot of conversations… it’s given us a really clear view on what we need to look at for next season.”
Michael Hussey discussed the lacklustre domestic performance in the 2025 Indian Premier League, but he did not go into specifics about the intentions for the next season. In their six games at Chepauk this season, they have suffered five defeats. Because of their domination there over the years, the venue has been referred to as CSK’s stronghold. But this season, things haven’t gone their way.
Michael Hussey acknowledged that the performances haven’t been up to par, even though they haven’t had much success with the throws.
“It’s surprising, isn’t it, to lose so many games at home,” he stated. “Other teams are also improving their performance at Chepauk. The dew also helped, making it simpler to bat second. However, I believe it boils down to our overall play—too many errors in the field, with the bat, and with the ball,” Hussey stated.
“It has caused us pain since we enjoy performing for our home crowd, who always show up in large numbers to cheer us on and we enjoy celebrating our victories in front of them. Losing games at home has been disheartening, he continued.
However, the Royal Challengers Bangalore is vying for a postseason spot. They are ranked third in the standings with seven victories from ten games. They will top the standings with a victory on Saturday.
