Unexpectedly, when listing his top three batters of all time, former South Africa captain Hashim Amla omitted the great Sachin Tendulkar. Prior to the World Championship of Legends (WCL) match between the South African and Indian champions in England, Amla made his selections public.
A startling exclusion from Amla’s list of the three best batters of all time recently made headlines. When Hashim Amla listed his top three in an interview, many fans were taken aback to find that Sachin Tendulkar, the former captain of India, was left off the list.
But now he chose the legendary Sir Vivian Richards, former South Africa colleague AB de Villiers, and former India captain Virat Kohli.
Hashim Amla claimed that his three favourite hitters as a child were South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis, Australian all-rounder Steve Waugh, and West Indies batsman Brian Lara.
“Over the years, there have been many outstanding players. Being from South Africa, my three favourite players as a child were Jacques Kallis, Steve Waugh, and Brian Lara. However, in an interview with Star Sports, Hashim Amla omitted the all-time top run scorer in international cricket, saying, “Now, I’d pick three other names-Virat Kohli in recent times, AB de Villiers, and one more from the old days, Sir Vivian Richards.”
Amla, 42, is in England right now, playing for the South African Champions in the WCL’s second season. South Africa defeated the West Indies in a bowl-out in their opening game of the current tournament. Amla scored 15 runs off of 18 balls when he started the batting. The AB de Villiers-led team concluded at 80/6, while the DLS target of 11 overs was 81.
JJ Smuts and Wayne Parnell bowled first for South Africa, hitting the stumps in the bowl-out. Ashley Nurse, Dwayne Bravo, Sheldon Cottrell, and Fidel Edwards were all out for the West Indies as they lost their season opener in heartbreaking fashion.
