Due to the ongoing rain in the host city, the 58th IPL 2025 match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru was cancelled before a ball was played. Throughout the evening, the weather played spoiler and prevented the coin toss from even happening.
Ultimately, the no-result game resulted in both sides sharing one point each. However, the washout gave KKR, who have 12 points and are officially out of the playoff picture, the end of the season.
With 17 points following the game, RCB jumped to the top of the standings and greatly increased their prospects of making the playoffs.
The Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Rajasthan Royals (RR), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are the three teams that have already been ousted from the 2025 Indian Premier League, making KKR the fourth team to do so.
Since RCB has yet to guarantee their top-four finish after reaching 17 points after Match 58 was abandoned, the outcome of the next games will be critical in determining their prospects of qualifying for the playoffs, making the battle for the playoffs fierce. The Bengaluru-based team will now be attentively observing the May 18 doubleheader between the Delhi Capitals (DC) and Gujarat Titans (GT), and the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Punjab Kings (PBKS). RCB will guarantee a postseason berth if either PBKS or DC lose their respective games.
This season, the Rajat Patidar-led team has played consistently, and they will be hopeful that the results support their qualification. After a 10-day break because of cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan, the IPL 2025 got underway today.
