Harshit Rana, an Indian pacer, recently opened up about how he handles setbacks. He is currently playing in the home series against New Zealand, which consists of five Twenty20 Internationals and three One-Day Internationals.
Harshit Rana disclosed that during his early cricket career, he experienced rejection for about ten years. Despite attending multiple trials, he was never chosen. He said that he frequently returned home in tears and that he had thought about abandoning up several times. But his father’s unwavering support and faith inspired him to keep going and pursue his passion.
“I’ve learnt how to deal with failure. I have witnessed those ten years of inaction. My name would not appear when I went to trials. Every day, I would return and cry in front of my father. I believe that failure is behind me now, and I am capable of handling any situation that arises. I had given up.
However, my dad genuinely continued pushing me,” Harshit Rana stated in a MensXP podcast.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, two Indian veterans, were also mentioned by the right-arm bowler as his favourite hitters to bowl to. He disclosed that both players pushed him to be his best self and helped him develop his skills by challenging him in the nets.
“Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Even if I bowl to them with ease, they compete when they bat in the nets and push me to do things, so I also give it my all when I bowl,” Harshit Rana added.
In all three formats, Harshit Rana has also made his debut for India. Using the bat in various forms, he has amassed 127 runs in 11 innings and claimed 34 wickets in 21 innings. He has already taken three wickets and scored 31 runs with the bat in the current New Zealand series.
Rana has taken 40 wickets in 32 innings while playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore will host the third and final One-Day International (ODI) between India and New Zealand on Sunday, January 18. As of right now, the series is tied at one.
