Harshit Rana penalised for ICC conduct violation in Ranchi

Pace bowler Harshit Rana was disciplined by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for an incident that occurred on Sunday, November 30, during the first One-Day International (ODI) between South Africa and India at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi. The hosts won the match by 17 runs. The scolding was due to a provocative gesture.

Harshit Rana was found guilty of violating Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with the bowler or any other teammate’s use of language, gestures, or actions to provoke an aggressive reaction or disparagement from a batter upon their dismissal during an international match.

In the 22nd over of South Africa’s chase in the Ranchi match, the incident occurred when the Indian bowler motioned for South Africa’s Dewald Brevis to head for the dressing room following his dismissal. After noticing this gesture, match referee Richie Richardson penalised Harshit Rana for his offensive comment.

Richardson awarded a demerit point to the cricket player’s disciplinary record after Rana accepted the sentence without contesting it. Since this was Harshit Rana first violation of the Code of Conduct in the previous 24 months, it is important to note that the demerit points will be in place for 24 months after the date of the initial violation.

Speaking of Harshit Rana performance in the first ODI, the right-arm bowler was outstanding with the ball for the Men in Blue.

His 3/65 in a thrilling match guaranteed that India would not allow the visitors to cross the finish line in the second innings. His three-wicket haul also included a few of runs in his second over, as he defeated Quinton de Kock and Ryan Rickelton. Of course, Brevis was his third wicket of the evening.
