R Ashwin, a former cricket player from India, shared his thoughts on the criticism Harshit Rana and other players have faced. Ashwin also shared his thoughts on the selection of Harshit for both white-ball teams.
“I don’t know why they are choosing him. To find out why he was chosen, I would really like to attend the selection meeting. The reason, in my opinion, is that Australia needs a fast bowler who can also bat. In a video posted to his YouTube account, Ashwin said, “Someone is choosing him as a possible No. 8 because they believe he can bat.”
Since being named in the squad for the white-ball series against Australia, Harshit Rana has received a lot of criticism.
Ashwin made it apparent that criticism must never become a personal feud and must always be based on performances. He also thought back to his playing days, when Sanjay Manjrekar would continually criticise him.
“I have consistently emphasised that no player should be challenged from below. The genre shifts when the attack gets too personal. My topic of discussion is Sanjay Manjrekar. He has been critical of me all my career. However, I’ve never harboured resentment towards him. Whether they are correct or not, I don’t mind criticism as long as it doesn’t get personal,” he continued.
Both the ODI and T20I teams have chosen Harshit. The first ODI between India and Australia will take place on Sunday, October 19. Five 20-over matches will follow three ODIs. Currently in Perth, the Men in Blue are getting ready for the series opener, which will take place at Perth Stadium.
