The Indian all-rounder Harshit Rana has received a tonne of appreciation from legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar for his valiant effort against New Zealand in the third and final ODI. Harshit Rana effort during the 99-run partnership with Virat Kohli kept India in the game for a while, despite the fact that they lost the match and ultimately the series.
In an effort to raise the stakes and move the side closer to the goal, the former India skipper examined how the all-rounder approached his innings.
Sunil Gavaskar has praised Harshit Rana for his half-century lower down the order.
“He batted carelessly, exactly like a lower-order hitter. He was not expected to do anything. He was aware that swinging his bat was his job. Great if he connected. The short ball was bowled on few occasions. Through Star Sports, Gavaskar stated, “He was attempting to cut it up.”
“Even though he couldn’t get it, he wasn’t frustrated because he knew that if he pitched it up, he would hammer you, and if he pitched it halfway down, he would hit you for six.” And he did just that. The cricket player-turned-commentator continued, “I found it impressive that he was unaffected by the fact that he hadn’t actually scored any of those runs.
The 76-year-old went on to say that Harshit needs to cherish these priceless moments because not every player gets the chance to bat with legends like Virat and Sachin Tendulkar.
“A Kohli-like person was at the other end. How many people get to bat alongside a Tendulkar or a Kohli? “All you want to do is relish those moments,” Gavaskar said.
India loses against New Zealand in their first-ever home series.
It was a series decider at the Holkar Stadium in Indore because the series was knotted at one. Thanks to hundreds from Glenn Phillips and Daryl Mitchell, the visitors scored a massive 337 runs when batting first. The Men in Blue lost the game by 41 runs after failing to chase down the target in their reply.
With 124 runs off 108 balls in yet another chase, Virat was at the top of his game. The bowler Harshit Rana’s stunning batting, however, was the true talking point of India’s chase. When the pressure was mounting, the Delhi-born joined Kohli and managed to contribute 52 runs to keep the side in the match, albeit with an unfavourable outcome.
