“40 years ago today,” Harsha Bhogle is celebrating 40 lovely years of his commentary stint as he announces the date in the format “40 years ago today.”

There is not a shred of doubt in anyone’s mind that Harsha Bhogle is among the very greatest cricket pundits in the entire globe. Bhogle tweeted an image of the invitation he received from Doordarshan to commentate on his first One-Day International match on Instagram.

“It was exactly 40 years ago today. My first over-the-hill attempt. Remember the young man who was running around like crazy trying to obtain opportunities? And it was a generous producer from DD-Hyd who gave him this opportunity. The night before, while raising the curtain, I did the curtain raiser while sitting on a roller and wearing a plain t-shirt. And received two commentary slots for the following day. I was able to play in one test match and two more one-day internationals over the subsequent 14 months.
