The first Twenty20 International (T20I) in Dublin on September 17 (Wednesday) saw Ireland record a competitive score of 196/3, which did not bode well for England under new captain Jacob Bethell. Lorcan Tucker (55), who put up 123 for the third wicket, and Harry Tector (61*) both had outstanding fifties to help Ireland.
They have now tied the record set by Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul, who also scored 123 against England in Manchester in 2018—one of the biggest partnerships against England for a lower wicket.

Ireland has not yet lost to England in a Twenty20 International. In the format, the two teams have faced off twice. In the T20 World Cup 2022 in Melbourne, Ireland defeated England by five runs (DLS), while the first game in 2010 at Providence was washed out.
The two teams are playing a bilateral T20I series for the first time. The next games, on September 19 (Friday) and September 21 (Sunday), will also take place in Dublin.
