Harry Conway, an Australian seamer, has committed to play for Northamptonshire in the May County Championship.
Conway will play four Division Two games at Wantage Road. Prior to games against Lancashire, Glamorgan, and Gloucestershire, he will play his debut game against Leicestershire on May 2.
The 32-year-old has taken eight wickets at 27.12 in his three appearances for South Australia, the Sheffield Shield finalists, this winter. Conway, a fast bowler who can extract respectable bounce, strengthens Northamptonshire’s seam options, which were reduced when Jack White was lost to Yorkshire at the end of the previous campaign.
Harry Conway, a former Australia U19, excelled at New South Wales before moving to the Adelaide Oval in 2022 to switch states. With 46 games, he has a first-class record of 119 wickets at 28.86.
Harry Conway joins fellow South Australian Darren Lehmann, who is currently in charge of Northamptonshire’s coaching staff. Before India leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal arrives in June and stays until the end of the season, he and South African Matthew Breetzke are the club’s overseas alternatives for the first half of the season.
“I’m super excited for the opportunity to come over and try and win games for an awesome County,” Harry Conway said in a statement issued on Friday. “The team is full of young talent, and I can’t wait to play under an international standard coach in Darren Lehmann.”
Lehmann thinks Harry Conway will succeed during his time there thanks to his skill set.
“Harry perfectly fits the mould of English conditions and will hopefully help us get off to a positive start.”
“The experience that he brings will be invaluable, especially on the wickets that we’ll play on early in the season.”
