Social media has gone crazy about Harmanpreet Kaur’s mirroring trophy moment in front of the Gateway of India in Mumbai because it looks a lot like MS Dhoni’s famous World Cup pose from just over 14 years ago. India defeated South Africa in the final on Sunday, November 2, at Navi Mumbai to win their first Women’s World Cup.
During the photo shoot, Harmanpreet wore the national ODI jersey, while Dhoni wore a blazer over a formal shirt. The bright smiles that the cricket players were wearing were the only commonality between the two images.

India won its first women’s cricket 50-over championship at the 2025 Women’s World Cup. In contrast, after a 28-year wait, the men’s team led by Dhoni finally won the World Cup. The men’s team ended the lengthy wait at Mumbai’s famous Wankhede Stadiium, while the women’s team raised the trophy at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.
Dhoni’s squad defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets and ten balls remaining, while Harmanpreet’s team defeated South Africa by 52 runs.
The fact that all-rounders took home the Player of the Tournament trophy is yet another striking parallel between the two campaigns. In 2011 and 2025, respectively, Yuvraj Singh (362 runs and 15 wickets) and Deepti Sharma (215 runs and 22 wickets) took home the prized awards.
