Following two distinct violations of the ICC Code of Conduct during India’s skipper Harmanpreet Kaur team’s next two international games against Bangladesh on Saturday in Dhaka, India has been suspended for those two games.
Following her conviction for violating article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision,” Kaur was fined 50% of her match fee and had three demerit points added to her disciplinary record for a Level 2 offence.
Kaur was also fined 25% of her match fee for a Level 1 offense after being found guilty of violating rule 2.7, which deals with “public criticism in relation to an incident occurring in an international match.”
The first incident happened when Kaur struck the wickets with her bat in the 34th over of India’s innings as a sign of protest after she was ruled to have been caught at slip off spinner Nahida Akter. The second incident happened during the awards ceremony when Kaur criticized the match’s umpiring.
There was no need for a formal hearing because Harmanpreet Kaur had already acknowledged to the violations and agreed to the punishments suggested by Akhtar Ahmed of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees.
The accusations were made by the on-field umpires, Tanvir Ahmed and Muhammad Kamruzzaman, as well as the third and fourth umpires, Moniruzzaman and Ali Arman.
Level 2 violations result in fines ranging from 50% to 100% of the player’s match cost and three to four demerit points, whereas Level 1 violations result in a minimum punishment of an official reprimand, a maximum fine of 50% of the player’s match fee, and one to two demerit points.
Four demerit points gained by Kaur become two suspension points. Harmanpreet Kaur is currently suspended from India’s next matches since two suspension points are equivalent to a suspension from one Test, two ODIs, or two T20Is, depending on which comes first for the player or player support personnel.
