Harmanpreet Kaur set to be India's No.3 in Women's T20 World Cup

Many eyes are on the Indian women when the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 gets underway. The Women in Blue’s campaign will begin with a matchup against women from New Zealand. On Friday, October 4, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, both teams will square off in the tournament’s fourth game.

There have been multiple conversations over India’s third-best hitter in the tournament leading up to this match, but head coach Amol Muzumdar has been evasive on the subject.

However, it appears that Harmanpreet Kaur will start the competition as India’s third-ranked player.

“Unquestionably. Not only did we make decisions during the warm-up games, but also during the sessions held in India before to our departure for the World Cup. Our camp in Bangalore was quite enjoyable. There, we had made our decision. We were fully convinced of that by these pre-World Cup games. Is it unexpected? Nope. According to quotes from Amol Muzumdar, “If you can guess, you can go through the scorecards and you will find it.”

There have been numerous players who have held the number three spot in the India women’s team. It is noteworthy that Yastika Bhatia, the leading candidate for the role, sustained an injury while touring Bangladesh. Nevertheless, Yastika returned to the team and is included in the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup roster.

In the warm-up matches for the T20 World Cup, India women’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur batted at number three, so it appears that Yastika will have to wait for her time. Even though Harmanpreet didn’t perform well in the warm-up games, she is still projected to bat at number three because of her potential to get some runs once in position at the crease.

When Harmanpreet Kaur bats at four or five, on the other hand, she is consistently observed to be chasing the ball. The Indian team is hoping that the top batter can take advantage of her position at number three and show the other team how much faith they have in her.
