At the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Gujarat Giants defeated Delhi Capitals by five wickets in their seventh WPL 2025 game. Harleen Deol’s undefeated 70 helped them cross the finish line with three balls remaining as they chased a target of 178.
“If you’re an Indian coach or Indian selector, you know that Harleen Deol can do a role at five or six in the middle, or she can do a role up top,” Gujarat Giants Head Coach Michael Klinger said in response to the Harleen Deol performance during the post-game press conference.
She can play a variety of roles, so that makes her very appealing to a T20 team, and I’m quite delighted for her.
We urged her to demonstrate some intent this season, and she did so by, among other things, stepping down the wicket. She should be able to carry that over into T20 cricket. She has proven that she can be a formidable force in T20 cricket as well, and I believe she will be an Indian player for a very long time in all forms,” he continued.
The Gujarat Giants are presently ranked second in the standings after seven games with four victories and eight points. Their chances of making the playoffs have increased after they have won three straight games.
“If you look at it from a strategy and tactical side of things, one thing we’ve got now is eight extra quality options from Kashvee and Priya,” the former Australian star said in reference to the reversal. We have benefited greatly from simply having those extra eight overs in our lineup.
We had a few guys represent India A and India in international matches over the past 12 months, which is something I’m pleased of. Since they will be competing against some of the best Indian and foreign players in the world, that exposure to and experience with elite cricket has prepared them well for this competition,” he said.
On Monday, March 10, the Gujarat Giants will play the Mumbai Indians in their final WPL 2025 league stage encounter at Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium.
