On June 2, West Indies faced Papua New Guinea in Match 2 of their T20 World Cup 2024. It was the team’s first match. Fans were taken aback when India’s vice captain, Hardik Pandya, appeared out of nowhere as the West Indies won the match by five wickets. Pandya’s photo was shown by the announcers in the match summary section, ahead of the players who had excelled throughout the contest.
The names of Brandon King and Andre Russell were shown beneath Pandya’s picture. Due to a broadcasting error, he was able to join the PNG team and took the place of Sesa Bua and Asad Wala in the photo. In the contest, PNG scored 136 runs when they batted first on a slow track. With five wickets remaining and one over to go, West Indies managed to reach their target despite some early struggles.

You have to continue fighting, in my opinion: Hardik Pandya
Being an all-arounder, Pandya has been through a difficult period. He didn’t have a very good Indian Premier League 2024 season. At an almost 11-run per over pace, he conceded runs while taking just 11 wickets. He scored just 216 runs at an average of 18, demonstrating an unsatisfactory batting performance as well. Pandya spoke candidly about the difficulties and obstacles he faced after hammering home a rapid 40* runs in 23 balls against Bangladesh during the T20 World Cup warm-up.

“I think you have to stay in the fight at some point. Life can place you in difficult circumstances at times. However, in my opinion, you won’t achieve your desired outcomes or what you want from your sport if you quit the game or the battlefield. Yes, it has been challenging, but I have also followed my own procedures. I’ve made an effort to stick to the routines I used to,” Hardik Pandya remarked.
